International Shotokan Karate Federation (ISKF)

Lozo Karate is an authentic Japanese martial arts school. It is a member of the ISKF (International Shotokan Karate Federation). Membership means that all of the ranks and certifications earned through Lozo Karate are recognized all over the world as legitimate martial arts credentials. The ISKF is a traditional Shotokan karate organization, founded 1977 by Master Teruyuki Okazaki, who studied directly under Master Gichin Funakoshi, the founder of Shotokan karate. The ISKF is a non-profit organization that strives to uphold the integrity and goals of Master Funakoshi, which includes following the guidelines and principles set forth by the Dojo Kun and Niju Kun.

Contrary to popular belief, the term Dojo is not a Japanese word for a gym or martial arts studio. Written in Kanji (a system of Japanese writing using Chinese characters), it means “a place of the way.” It means that a dojo is any place, physical structure or otherwise, where somebody is practicing the way that would lead to enlightenment.

In that sense, Lozo Karate is the place where — in addition to improving health and developing our self-defense skills — we will develop courtesy, manners and etiquette, respect, self-discipline, self-control, patience, compassion, courage, and wisdom, which will consequently lead to a clearer understanding of ourselves, our existence, and the world around us.

Shotokan Karate

Through Goran’s professional karate career, as a karate competitor, coach, and student, he has visited six continents and more than 40 countries. In each of those countries and in almost every city Goran went to, he was able to find a Shotokan karate dojo. There are other excellent styles of karate, but Shotokan is certainly the most popular and the best-known karate style in the world. It is the only truly global brand of karate.

“The ultimate aim of karate lies not in victory or defeat, but in the perfection of the character of its participants. “
Gichin Funakoshi

Benefits of Karate

Almost all modern sports are only concerned with the physical aspect of training. On the other hand, karate provides a tremendous benefit not only to the body, but it has an extraordinary effect on the spirit and the mind.

Benefits of practicing karate are countless but if those benefits must be summarized in a few words, it would be reasonable to say that karate makes people healthier and happier, it strengthens human character, and makes its practitioners capable of protecting themselves and other innocent people against malevolent individuals.

It is hard to think about any human activity that has potential to improve human lives and society in the same way that karate has.

Benefits of Karate

All our programs are executed in a very safe training environment. We take all possible precautions so no student will ever be hurt or injured, from the effective warmup which prepares body and mind for the main part of training, to the development of proper techniques which prevents injuries from unintended actions during the practice, to use of safety gear that protects all vulnerable areas of the body from impact of unintended physical contact. Most importantly, our chief instructor and our assistant instructors are there to supervise students during the practice.
